Our little Sylver. She is equal parts goodness and intensity. Everything she does is with full effort. She plays hard, works hard, loves hard, and fights hard. She knows what she wants and has no qualms about sharing her opinions. She decided on her fourth birthday that she was done with bangs and she is so happy that they are officially grown out. She plays so well with all her sisters. It is so neat to watch her let Scarlett take the lead during play and then when Scarlett is at school she takes on the leader role with Sarah. She started preschool this year and loves it and she is so helpful with the baby. She is HILARIOUS and intuitive and I whisper to her daily that she is my favorite (don't worry, I tell all of them that, but I think she believes she really is the favorite). Her own quotes describe her personality better than I ever could, so here are some gems from the last year:
December 5
"Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way! Oh what fun to choose the right, all through the sleigh."
Whenever a driver on the road does something dumb and I say something about it, Sylvia says, “We are never going to that guy's house.” And if a driver does something nice and I wave to say, "Thank you" she says, “We should go to that guy's house.”
January 2
Sylvia: Who is more important to you? Me or the game?
Mom: You.
Sylvia: Yep. I just knowed because of my cute face.
January 7
She is OBSESSED with outer-space. She thinks that outer-space is her friend and she wants to go to outer-space school. She was even an astronaut for Halloween.
January 11
Begging Scarlett for something: "Pleeeeeease, please?? I’ll give you all my dollars!"
February 11
She did something kind and selfless and when I complimented her choice she said, "My paper from church says to choose the right, so I choosed the right!"
February 13
"Whenever I meet someone new I make them my best friend."
March 13
Scarlett was apologizing that she didn’t mix the waffles well enough and Sylvia said, "It’s OK, it’s still delectable."
We were watching a scene from a movie where someone is doing CPR and Sylvia looked at me and said, “Mom, if you die, I will give you mine breath and make you alive.”
April 8
Moira was four days old and we were all soaking her in. Sylvia held her more than anybody and one time she said, "Mom. That baby makes my heart BURST."
Grandma: Oh my goodness that baby is in a deep sleep.
Sylvi: Yeah, she is out of power.
Grandma and Papou were hiding a soda and she asked for a sip and they said they didn’t have any and she said, “You guys, quit lying.”
"Mom, I saw a real mail truck and a real mailman for real life!"
April 11
My parents took the girls to Walmart with them while they were visiting. Upon entering the store she said, "You have to pretend you’re our parents because they don’t allow old people here."
Sylvia: I’m marrying Sorren
Papou: Well, I’m gonna come to your wedding.
Sylvia: No you won’t. You’ll be dead.
She chose not to eat her dinner and I told her there was nothing else and that she wasn’t going to eat anything later that night. She agreed and at bedtime she said, “I think I made a mistake.”
April 19
"This baby is so important to me and you are important to me and I want to help the baby and help you because I love you more than my friend outer space."
April 20
"I love you all the way to the last outer space"
April 26
The girls were all playing a game and I overheard Sylvia say, "If you win, the prize is getting to do whatever you want without asking mom."
Oshkosh = Hopscotch
Hobby Lobby = Laffy Taffy
Mangos = Flamangos
I forgot = I ba-got
June 3
Scarlett's teacher announced she was pregnant. That night at family prayer, Sylvia said, "Bless Scarlett’s teacher that she will have a good time having the baby and she won’t scream. Bless mom that she will have a good time with the baby in the night."
June 4
"If I was a fire-person and I was on fire, I would be so mad."
June 9
There is a little hole in the ceiling above Sylvia’s bed. Jordan went to patch it up before we moved and Sylvia said, “Aww. I like to pretend there is a little owl peaking at me at night.”
June 10
The cat just came in from the rain and I could tell she had something in her mouth and it was a tiny bird. It got away from her and Sylvia yelled, “Should we call the police??” The bird let me pick him up and we let him back outside. He seemed fine and flew away. Then Sylvia sighed and said, “We are never letting the cat outside again.”
June 11
We were walking through the hospital to get lunch at a yummy little sandwich place and we passed someone on a gurney and Sylvia said, “I just saw a dead person!” Jordan answered, “They are not dead.” And Sylvia said, “Oh. Just passed out.”
June 15
We were at the park and there was a big Ramadan celebration and Sylvia observed, "We are the only people here with white skin."
June 16
We were in large crowd and she said, "Jesus worked so hard making all these people."
July 6
Sylvia: Kent is my best, best fwend.
Kent: I’m your best, best friend???
Sylvia: Yeaaaah! Sucker!
July 10
Sylvia and Sarah were playing doctor. When Sylvia patched up Sarah's pretend wound, she said, "If you die a little bit, come back to the doctor."
After seeing her 90-year-old great grandmother, she said, "Great, great grandma has very old teeth."
August 26
I was explaining that Jesus is our spirit brother and Sylvia said, “Oh, so we actually have two boys in our family! Dad and Jesus.”
August 27
"Will you please play with me? You can be the mom because you are a mom and you know how moms be."
August 28
"Mom, I want to tell you a miracle. I just peeled off a scab and it’s not bleeding."
August 30
Sylv: Mom. Mooom. MOOOOM!
Me: What??
Sylv: I just want to tell you why I love snow. Because it makes the trees shine.
After I gave a homeless man some money:
Sylvia: Hey mom. You gave an old man money last time, too.
Me: Yep. The same man.
Me: Yep. The same man.
Sylvia: Oh, does he sleep there?
Me: I don’t think so.
Sylvia: Yeah, he probably sleeps all alone in the woods.
September 21
Her aunt Angeleah brought a bag of treats to Sylvia and when we went back to their house, she was so thankful. She ran and found her aunt, hugged her legs and said, "Thank you SO much, Angeleah. I loved my treats. They were the BEST! You are SO NICE!" And she just kept repeating over and over all the reasons she was so grateful. She is the most grateful kid I have ever met.
September 28
Sylvia was trying to squeeze something, I wish I could remember what, but she said, "It’s like my muscles aren’t being true anymore. When I try to squeeze, it doesn’t work."
October 1
She is really in tune after church. When we got home, she said, "Mom, I feel the spirit. I feel like being kind."
In the car: "Turn on the hot conditioner."
She mixes up common phrases just like her dad. Instead of "Easy-peasy, lemon squeezy" and "See ya later, Alligator," She says, "Easy-peasy, Alligaty."
October 14
We watched a video of the Good Samaritan, and afterward she said, “That was sad. Let’s watch a different happier one so I can forget about that one.” Then we watched one about the Widow’s Mite and she said, “Nope. That was sad, too. Try again.” The next one was about the atonement and she said, “Is that real life? Did that really happen to Jesus? Why is everything so sad?!"
November 9
"I was mad at first, but then I just dealed with it."
November 17
"I give really hard high-fives. I give the hurtingest high-fives in the world."
