The Project from H-E-Double-Hockey-Sticks.
I have really been wanting an upholstered rocking chair. I figure if I am going to be getting up in the middle of the night, I may as well get to sink into something padded and wonderful. Unfortunately, upholstered rocking chairs are $300-$400. In the spirit of trying to create a cute and inexpensive nursery, I decided to make a slipcover for a rocking chair we found at a thrift store for 20 bucks. It has great bones and it is so comfortable. It supports my body in all the right places, so if I fall asleep, I will at least sleep soundly. Little did I know that this was going to be an ENORMOUS project. I found a bunch of online tutorials and it looked so simple, but I was harshly humbled. I don't think I have ever yelled so much at an inanimate object. It took me two full weeks to make this cursed slipcover. I am not exaggerating when I say I spent all day every day on it--except last Sunday. I decided I probably shouldn't swear on Sundays. I ended up completely disassembling the entire first week of work. I kept trying to cover mistakes with more mistakes until I finally had to rip out every seam and start again. I strongly considered giving up and I even thought about burning it. This was the most frustrating thing I have ever done, but I am happy to report that it is finished. I am pleased with how it turned out. It is far from perfect, but I conquered it.

ReplyDeleteHa! Can you come recover the big chair in Megans room that I bought over a year ago and still haven't re-covered.
It looks awesome!
I was able to imagine you yelling at that chair and it made me laugh out loud. I miss you! Brenden and I have a chair almost exactly like that and it looks fine and is in good shape but it just doesn't fit in with the rest of our furniture. I love what you did with yours! (I doubt I could undertake such a project with ours though!)
ReplyDeleteYou're so fabulous, Carly! Ha ha. I could NEVER do that. :)
