Bunk Bed

Last week my brother and his wife asked me if I wanted to build their kids a bunk bed while we were in Utah for a few weeks. I was thrilled to do it because frankly, I was bored. I love being at my in-laws, but it's a double-edged sword because while my kids are constantly being entertained, I don't have anything to do and that makes me anxious. It's nice for a few days, but then I start twiddling my thumbs and eating too much, so a project like this was an answer to prayer. Much to his dismay, I made Jordan help me. I know he secretly loves it, though. You should have seen the way he paced around the finished product, admiring it with his dimply grin.

We used these plans from Ana White (of course), but modified them to the style my brother and sister-in-law wanted. It is made of reclaimed oak and new pine and I must say, it turned out pretty dang awesome. It's too bad Jordan graduates medical school in three weeks and is set on being an ER doc because we have a good thing going.

It is not without its flaws. Perhaps that is why we keep doing rustic pieces. If ever we would mess up, I would glare at Jordan and he would always say "It's okay! It's rustic!" We always learn something new when we tackle something like this, but I really love doing it and hope I can keep it up.

  1. Um... you're insane. And by that I mean INSANELY talented and I'm INSANELY jealous. We have about 101 DIY projects ahead of us this year as we move into a fixer-upper home and all I can say is I wish you lived next door. It's completely overwhelming to me, but I have a feeling you would love it. :)

  3. Looking at your blog today. Um WOW. This is amazing. Lane and I are looking into bunk beds and he is into making things lately but we have never made anything like this. I may have to show him this link and your Ana White link. You're amazing.
