Give Me Time

Jordan and I aren't so good at holidays. I don't know why, they just sort of get away from us. It may be that our time (and money) is so limited, that just being together really is enough. But my resolution this year was to plan ahead and put a little more time and thought into people. I realized a few months ago that people are my "thing." I have wanted a thing or talent to magnify for as long as I can remember, but I always burn out and give up. I finally realized that I don't care enough about anything to put the time into mastering a skill, but I do care enough about people. If I am going to put a lot of time into anything, I want to put it into people because selfishly, they make me most happy. I have been doing little things here and there, but I haven't put a lot of time into the most important person in my life--my husband. I am so grateful for Jordan's persistence and discipline. The weight he carries everyday is incomprehensible, and I wanted to put some effort into Valentine's Day for him. I was first surprised by a note on the mirror and flowers in the car. Then I made a yummy dinner and an even yummier dessert, and while he had to take a break from Valentine's Day to study (seriously, that poor guy), Scarlett helped me make a paper trail of hearts leading to his present. I made him a "52 Reasons I Love You" gift out of a deck of cards. I started jotting down ideas a few weeks ago, and as I noticed things he does or remembered inside jokes, my heart grew 10 sizes for him (which I didn't even think was possible). Then we played poker with the cards and I lost all of my money (I am a little too confident when I only have a pair). I cannot adequately describe how fun and good this was for my soul. I love this man and all the people in my life. Here's to more time for each other.
