Humble Pie
I had a boyfriend once who said I thought too deeply for him. I wasn't sure whether or not to take it as a compliment or a criticism, and now I see that it is indeed both. I like to think and to analyze. I like to improve myself and the world around me. I also have an obsessive personality. When something speaks truth to my soul, it consumes me. It replays in my mind and becomes the foundation for my thoughts and actions. This obsessiveness, this passion, fuels my motivation. It helps me finish big tasks and solve hard problems. It helps me feel more acutely, empathize more genuinely, and love more intensely. When the truth sets me free, I want to liberate everyone I know. I want to shout it from the mountaintops and invite the ones I love to swim with me in this new understanding. But sometimes this obsessiveness can turn into a soapbox. It can hurt feelings and sound judgmental and preachy, but it is really just a display of misdirected love. I have been humbled into this realization over the last couple of days, but as my sister said while I tearfully confided in her, "humility makes you feel alive." And that is the purpose of life; to learn, to change, to progress, to grow--to grow so tall that you need some humbling to make you small again--and then you feel alive.

This is a beautiful post. :)
ReplyDeleteYou are in good company with your strengths AND your weaknesses. ;)
ReplyDeleteI just love you. Kiss that baby and snuggle that husband. Or,vice versa, depending on the needs of the parties involved.
oooh...so true...you come by it honestly.
ReplyDeleteLove the baby and the condoms too. Just makes her look even cuter.
Your sister is so wise :)
ReplyDeleteOnce again, I love your post. And I am so similar.
ReplyDeleteWas this, maybe in some small part, in response to Tuesday night's Zodiac fest? I love your thoughts!
ReplyDeleteHi Carly, this is Lorie Cannon from Piney Creek. I found your blog through Kristy's and was excited to hear about your cute baby and KCOM schooling! We interviewed there and thought it was an awesome place. Hang in there through school... residency was tough but once he is done, it is like winning the lottery. We thought the same thing going through it but trust me.... Job security and almost everything about being a dr. is worth it. You are a great writer and it is fun to catch up on your life. :).
ReplyDeleteBeautifully written Carly! So wonderful. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThis is so well-written, and really echos a lot of what I've been thinking about lately. I need to get back to blogging! But for now I'm going to tell my friends to read this post. I love reading your thoughts, lady. I hope you and your beautiful family are well.
