Lake Powell.

We have a very busy summer ahead of us and an already busy summer behind us. It's all fun things and trying to cram in as much vacation time before med school and baby girl take over our lives. We have been on a couple of trips already! Right after graduation we went to Lake Powell with Jordan's brother and sister and their spouses. Here are some perspectives of this "vacation."

Lake Powell Version I:
- We went camping. Camping is hard. Especially when you have to be the adult and plan it and bring all the crap. I'm used to just showing up.
- Our air mattress went completely flat every night resulting in bruised hips and sore backs. There had to have been a hole, but we never found it.
- It was freezing at night. You know when it's so cold you have to put your head in your sleeping bag, but then you wake up suffocating and pull your head out, only to freeze again and hide your face in your sleeping bag and it goes on and on and on and on...?
- There were 45mph winds ALL DAY and when you are camping, there is no refuge. All you can do is stand there and let it beat you up. The wind was so strong that the tent was breaking and flying away so we had to anchor it to the car.
- The tops of my feet and the whole front side of my body got horribly sunburned. It's harder to notice you're getting burned when the wind is cooling you off.
- Jordan's brother bought a HUGE raft that fit all six of us (plus a child) and we got stranded in the middle of the lake because the wind picked up. I paddled my little heart out for a half hour while the boys swam us to shore in the FREEZING water.
- Food takes so much longer when you're camping.
- We were camping with a one-year-old. Need I say more?

Lake Powell Version II:
+ We went camping. Camping is peaceful. There is no buzz of technology and no hustle and bustle. Just peace.
+ We were able to return our air mattress.
+ I usually can't snuggle with my husband at night because I get too hot, but it was so cold we were intertwined all night long and I LOVED IT.
+ I have never been more appreciative of still air than after the wind suddenly stopped. And I learned I have a high threshold of patience for nature.
+ My sister-in-law brought Aloe Vera. The back side of my body did not get burned so I could still sit and lay comfortably. The front side is the better side to fry.
+ Jordan's brother bought a HUGE raft that fit all six of us (plus a child) and we floated and talked and laughed and drank Caprisuns for hours. I got a good arm workout paddling us to shore.
+ Food tastes so much better when you're camping.
+ We were camping with a one-year-old. He may have cried at night, but I brought ear-plugs. He was such a good boy the whole time and tugged my heart-strings. Children make everything more precious and wonderful.

Look, we are smiling.

  1. I'm so sorry you had such a miserable time. Or good time. But not ideal. Lake Powell is my FAVORITE so I'm so sad you didn't get to enjoy it all.

But I have to say. Your post had me laughing my head off. I shouldn't laugh at you. I really shouldn't. But I just couldn't help it. :)

    Love you dearly!!!
