Call us crazy...

Since my half-marathon last June, I vowed I would run a race every year. It forces me to stay in shape (at least for a couple months out of the year), I like doing it (after the race is over), and it gives me a goal (which I need because of my "all or nothing" personality). I found a half-marathon that looked promising (lots of downhill this time) and asked Jordan if we could afford the 50 bucks (why are races so expensive??). He of course wanted me to do it and then a crazy thought entered his mind. "What if I run the marathon? I've already done the half, so been there done that. I'm going to make my friends do it with me."

He's serious when he says "make his friends do it." He and his best friends since high school have this psycho bond and if one of them is doing something hard, they cannot withhold themselves from participating. Part of it is moral support, another is good competitive spirit, but mostly they just have to do things together so they can talk about it forever. For example, Jordan never considered running the half, but one of their friends was training really hard for it, so one day he and Austin decide they'd join him. They didn't train at all, they camped the night before, showed up the next day for the race, and ended up significantly beating the other friend's time. They were insanely sore and exhausted for days, but they did beat him...together.

Now don't get me wrong, these boys are not boasters, in fact I have never met a more humble bunch. They just like to tell each other about the cool things they do together. Like I said, a psycho bond.
So now I am running the half (possibly with Jordan's sister, Kristi) and Jordan, Isaac, Patrick, and Austin will be running the marathon together. Precious.

September 25. 8 am. Anyone want to join us? There's also a 5k and a fun run.

  1. Just make him at least do a little training this time. You should've seen him and Austin waddling and barely moving the day after their half marathon. I felt so bad for them. It really was a sad sight.

Where is it? I've been looking for a 5k to do in September.

  3. I think "fun" and "run" should not appear in the same sentence together. Talk about your all-time oxymoron! Good luck!
